This documentary s...hows how "The Kinsey Reports" have been used to change the laws concerning sex crimes in America, resulting in the minimal sentences so often given to rapists and pedophiles. Further explained is that the Kinsey data laid the foundation for sex education -- training teachers, psychologists and even Catholic priests in human sexuality. What has been the consequence? And what was Kinsey's research really based upon? Working secretly in his attic, Dr. Kinsey was one of America's original pornographers. His influence inspired Hugh Hefner to launch Playboy Magazine - the "soft" approach to porn - which in time would escalate the widespread use of pornography through magazines, cable TV and the Internet. In 2006 the California Child Molestation & Sexual Abuse Attorneys reported that: "The number of victims of childhood sexual abuse and molestation grows each year. Perhaps most disturbing, Alfred Kinsey has been accused of training pedophiles to work with stopwatches and record the responses of children being raped - all in the name of "science." Among his workers was a Nazi pedophile whose relationship to Kinsey was exposed in a German court. The information from these crimes was then recorded in "Table 34" of Kinsey's Sexual Behavior in the Human Male. How can lawmakers use such a document to define the moral parameters of our society? Sat. Aug. 14, 7pm @ INN Studios - 56 Walker St. (btwn Church & Broadway, 2 blocks south of Canal) Caught this fantastic documentary at Cinema Village in NY. In short, it traces the tremendous influence of Freudian ideas and the family Freud - Siggie, Anna, and nephew Edward Bernays - on the development contemporary capitalist societies. Using chilling footage and lucid voice over, it traces the methods by which Freud's discoveries about the sub/unconscious mind were systematically implemented by corporate America in the 1920's and later the U.S. government to increase their wealth/power while at the same time giving people the impression of greater personal freedom. It was Bernays who founded the 1st public relations firm and coined the term "engineering consent". Its thesis spans everything from the invention of public relations, modern advertising techniques, Nazi Germany, CIA brainwashing, the self-help movement, consumer culture and current U.S./British electoral politics. All of which have direct antecedents in the ideas of Freud. Apparently, due to lack of copyright clearances, it is not available on DVD or tape. But hopefully it will make the art house circuit. His follow-up, The Power of Nightmares, is supposedly even better. It deals with 9-11. More comprehensive and persuasive than "The Corporation" and more objective and grounded that Michael Moore's work, "Century of the Self" is essential viewing. If you think corporate and government collusion in controlling the masses is tin hat stuff, well, start measuring your head... $10 suggested donation - no one turned away. Saturday 9/11/10 8am sharp we will meet on Vessey St. against the cemetery fence off Broadway. At 8:30am we will peacefully and respectfully march in form towards the Path Station, down Vessey towards Building 7. It is there where we will wait through the moments of silence paying respect to the victims & grieving family members. The name calling ceremony usually lasts from 8am-12pm with two moments of silence at 8:45am and 9:03am. During this time it is important to show the utmost respect for those who lost their lives that day and their grieving families, friends, brothers & sisters from FDNY, NYPD, PAPD. This year to symbolize light and love we would like for all participants of the march to wear light colors for we are not mourning anymore, we are growing, and light signifies growth. On such a dreary & emotional day we would like to keep the moral up with positivity. At approx 12:30am we will start our name calling ceremony for those First Responders who have lost their lives since September 11th and aren't recognized as heroes. The ceremony will take place at the fountain with the giant red bulbs in front of Building 7. At 6pm come join us for our final day of speeches, presentations & performances. Description The most influential and controversial rap group of the 80's performs on the 20th anniversary of their seminal album Fear of a Black Planet, with two rising and equally political new comers. @ Central Park's SummerStage, 3pm-7pm August 15th 2010 Public Enemy rewrote the rules of hip-hop, becoming the most influential and controversial rap groups of all time. Public Enemy pioneered a variation of rap that was revolutionary. With his powerful, authoritative baritone, co-founder Chuck D rhymed about all kinds of social problems, particularly those plaguing the Black community, often condoning revolutionary tactics and social activism. In the process, he directed hip-hop toward an explicitly self-aware, Pro-Black consciousness. Musically, Public Enemy were just as revolutionary, creating dense soundscapes that relied on avant-garde cut-and-paste techniques, unrecognizable samples, piercing sirens, relentless beats, and deep funk. It was chaotic and invigorating music, made all the more intoxicating by Chuck Ds forceful vocals and the absurdist raps of his comic foil Flavor Flav. Today, PE celebrates the twentieth anniversary of their classic, influential album Fear of A Black Planet. Ghanaian hip-hop artist Blitz the Ambassador uses rousing horns and clever beats that make him impossible to take lightly. Alongside his band, The Embassy Ensemble, Blitz tests the limits of hip-hop with live instruments and heavily complex, cross-cultural musical exploration. At 4pm, join WeAreChange & The Love Police for street action at the Council on Foreign Relations, located @ 58 East 68th St. on the corner of Park Ave. (tentative) At 5pm we will march down Park Ave. to 59th St. past Central Park S. and end at Columbus Circle. We will march proudly during rush hour and stand our grounds. This march is a little over a mile and will be fast paced. We will all be wearing business casual attire, nothing will have a more profound impact on the Manhattan Professionals then a large group of beautiful men & women in attire similar to theirs. Recommended, button downs, collared shirts, blazers, or suit jackets for men & women. This march will end approx 7pm. Material to hand out will be provided but we welcome others to bring material as well(please refer to code of conduct). At 8:30pm join us INN Studios for an Activist Art Galley and Activist Learning Seminars & Presentations. Art work and Photography will be displayed by WeAreChange photographers Scott Star & John Long Tan, Brian Reeves of SlopArt & Graffiti Art by Duke and Duchess Creations... Learning seminars & presentations will kick off @ 9pm on the Main Stage... At 10:15 join us for Activist Idol- inspired by PorcFest Soap Box Idol, this will give contestants the chance to rant for 1 minute straight, winner will be chosen by 3 professional bullhorning panelists and awarded a golden bullhorn as well as a chance to present their speech during our main event on Saturday evening!
