The Bush administration is facing claims that it is fuelling an arms race in the Middle East following the disclosure of a plan to sell $20bn (£9.8bn) of advanced weaponry to Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states.
The plan, which will be announced today, will be balanced by a 25% increase in US military and defence aid to Israel. A further $13bn will be pledged to Egypt.
“This administration does not have an arms sales policy, except to sell, sell, sell,” said Daryl Kimball of the Arms Control Association. “That approach in the Middle East can be like throwing gasoline on a brush fire.”

Editor’s Note: As the nation and the world face 18 more months of George W. Bush’s presidency, a chilling prospect is that Bush – confronted with more defeats and reversals – might just “lose it” and undertake even more reckless military adventures.
In this special memorandum, the Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) collaborated with psychiatrist Justin Frank, author of Bush on the Couch, to assess the potential dangers and possible countermeasures available to constrain Bush:
Recent events have put a great deal more pressure on President George W. Bush, who has shown little regard for the constitutional system bequeathed to us by the Founders. Having bragged about being commander in chief of the “first war of the 21st century,” one he began under false pretenses, success in Iraq is now a pipedream.

Watching Attorney General Alberto Gonzales testify before Congress on July 24, 2007, for the third time, was excruciatingly painful.
During Gonzales’ testimony, it became abundantly clear that Americans were witnessing the unraveling of the fabric of America. We do not feel that this is an overstatement.
The Attorney General, a man who supposedly personifies America’s rule of law, obfuscated, committed perjury, and belittled the very institution, the Congress, which makes America a great Democracy. Over and over, we publicly witnessed Gonzales’ refusal to answer the questions posed by you – a Committee authorized to conduct oversight duties. You were made to look frustrated and foolish as your attempts at Executive Branch oversight were thwarted by the bizarre, circular non-answers of Attorney General Gonzales. For the third time, you were unable to penetrate his stonewalling.

Dr. Scott is one of the greatest assets the 9/11 Truth Movement has. I thank him for every contribution. - Jon

You can pre-purchase the book here.
“Scott’s brilliantly perceptive account of the underpinnings of American governmental authority should be made required reading. The book vividly depicts the political forces that have pushed this country toward an abyss, threatening constitutional democracy at home and world peace abroad. Its central message can be understood as an urgent wake-up call to everyone concerned with the future of America.”–Richard Falk, author of The Great Terror War

Part I…
Part II

Yesterday, I went to the 9/11 First Responder benefit concert held by John Feal, and the FealGood Foundation. Don, and Marie were nice enough to accompany me. Don was my… ehem… navigator, and Marie had a good time with the camera. The trip that should have taken us 2 hours took 4 and a half instead. Along the way, we saw Spiderman, a topless cowgirl, the David Letterman show, Times Square, the Empire State Building, a multitude of shops, and the great people of New York City. We also had an unfortunate, and “weird” run-in with the law. I’d never been pulled over before at a “checkpoint.” I wonder if this is commonplace in New York City. To Don, it reminded him of the phrase “papers please” that was often spoken in Nazi Germany.

Washington Post:
“(Sibel) Edmonds’s story has been almost uniformly ignored in the U.S. daily press.”
That’s certainly true. Why?
WaPo:
One possible explanation is that the heart of Edmonds’s story remains unconfirmed.
That’s not true. Senator Charles Grassley said:
“Absolutely, she’s credible. And the reason I feel she’s very credible is because people within the FBI have corroborated a lot of her story.”

One of the newest tidbits of information to come out about 9/11 was the discovery of a meeting on July 10th, 2001 between Cofer Black, George Tenet, and Condoleezza Rice. In October 2006, the “Jersey Girls” released a petition calling for the declassification of all information pertaining to that day, among other things. On June 18th, 2007, the “Jersey Girls” delivered the petition to those in Washington D.C.
The following is everything I have pertaining to that day:
Bush Officials May Have Covered Up Rice-Tenet Meeting From 9/11 Commission
Two Months Before 9/11, an Urgent Warning to Rice
9/11 Panel Members Weren’t Told of Meeting
Rice disputes report she brushed off CIA chief

I am a huge fan of Ray McGovern’s. He has one of the keenest intellects I’ve ever seen, and his insight into what’s going on in our country, and in our world is incredibly valuable. You may remember that I questioned Ray and Scott Ritter last summer. I also questioned Ray during the 2004 9/11 People’s Commission in Washington D.C., and defended him when the PNAC News attacked him. I was so proud of Ray when confronted Rummy. So much so, I made a “tribute” to him. A lot of info there. - Jon

Our financial leaders need to be brought down from their Olympian heights

The Guardian
The stand-off between Britain and France over the top job at the International Monetary Fund lifts the lid on how these things work. Alistair Darling was done up like a kipper by Nicolas Sarkozy, who united every EU country bar Britain behind the former French finance minister, Dominique Strauss-Kahn.
It goes without saying that Darling had right on his side. The idea that the Fund is a European fiefdom, with the MD chosen not through an open and transparent process but as a result of a deal cut in Brussels is indefensible. But there is a bigger issue at stake.
Whoever is chosen to run the IMF will join a select band of men wielding enormous power beyond the scope of the democratic process. If DSK (as he’s known in France) eventually starts laying down the financial law to poor countries in Africa, it will be without the approval of a single voter anywhere in the world. The same goes for Robert Zoellick at the World Bank, Pascal Lamy at the World Trade Organisation, for Jean-Claude Trichet at the European Central Bank and a host of lesser immortals who sit at the feet of the gods in the new Olympus.
