Government Reveals Its Own Abuse Of States Secrets Privilege

I want to thank Michael Wolsey for first bringing this to my attention, and Luke Ryland has an excellent write-up on this. - Jon

GOVERNMENT REVEALS ITS OWN ABUSE OF STATE SECRETS PRIVILEGE
Department of Justice, Which Claimed State Secrets Required Termination of Whistleblower Suit, Now Relies on Same “Secrets” to Avoid Tort Liability

Department of Justice and FBI attorneys, during recent depositions taken in FBI whistleblower Sibel Edmonds’ Federal Tort Claims case, Civil Action NO. 1:05-CV-540 (RMC), questioned witnesses regarding information previously designated “state secrets” by the Attorney General.

In April 2004, the Justice Department succeeded in preventing Edmonds from testifying in a lawsuit related to the September 11 terrorist attacks. The law firm of Motley Rice, representing September 11 family members, had subpoenaed Edmonds for a deposition, but the government argued that information provided by Edmonds “would cause serious damage to the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States.” By invoking the state secrets privilege and citing classification concerns, the government quashed the subpoena, and even seemingly innocuous questions regarding Edmonds’ birth place, her date of birth, her languages, even her position as a translator with the FBI, were deemed covered by the state secrets privilege. Richard Ben-Veniste Questions Condoleezza Rice About The August 6th, PDB

Someone on my site watched this recently, so I thought I would as well. I noticed a friend is in it, so I figured what the hell, I’ll upload it to Google Video. This is probably the “shining moment” of the 9/11 Commission. The one thing they, or at least Richard Ben-Veniste, did right. I am no fan of Richard Ben-Veniste. According to 9/11 Family Member Bob McIlvaine, Ben-Veniste told him that the 9/11 Commission was “not an investigation but merely an exposition.” Knowing that, and not making the public aware of it, or not attempting to report it to the media, and not resigning his position in protest, is criminal as far as I’m concerned. 9/11 Commissioner Max Cleland spoke up. If Richard Ben-Veniste wanted any credibility, he would have done the same. - Jon

Bush’s Warning To Iran Has Scared Me

Jon Gold
8/28/2007

Today, Bush warned Iran, “the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism,” that their “active pursuit of technology that could lead to nuclear weapons threatens to put a region already known for instability and violence under the shadow of a nuclear holocaust,” and “Iran’s actions threaten the security of nations everywhere, and the United States is rallying friends and allies to isolate Iran’s regime, to impose economic sanctions. We will confront this danger before it is too late.

I was reminded of the days before the Iraq War, and obviously there has been a massive push recently by the Administration, especially by Cheney, to go to war with Iran.

According to Rawstory, “the US has prepared its military for a “massive” attack against Iran, requiring little contingency planning and without a ground invasion.”

As far as I know, the people of America DO NOT support yet ANOTHER illegal war. However, if there is another 9/11 type event blamed on Iran (as Zbigniew specified), that’s it. We’re going to war.

I just want the Bush Administration to know that if we are attacked, I am not going to look at Iran, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan, or even Pakistan as culprits. I’m going to look right at you. I’m sure I won’t be the only one.

Evidence Suggests CIA Purposefully Spiked Investigations

Source: scoop.co.nz

Monday, 27 August 2007, 11:11 am

Dear Members of the Press:

A grave miscarriage of justice is afoot. After years being withheld the Administration finally is forced to release the CIA’s IG Report on 9/11. While earlier news accounts said the report would be released in early September it was released in the middle of a Congressional recess, in the middle of a Summer break, thus insuring it will not receive the attention it deserves. Worse still is the conclusion in most press reports since its release that bolsters the official narrative ie. that all the myriad failures were simply due to ’systemic failure’ and/or incompetence.

The circumstantial evidence running contrary to this conclusion is compelling and convincing.

It appears that Al-Hazmi and Al-Mihdhar were being protected by higher ups in the CIA. Respected author Joe Trento has reported that they were working for Saudi Intelligence. Others reported the two were removed from the watchlist two days before 9/11. I don’t know if either was the case. It is clear however that there was a concerted effort to protect them similar in some respects to the way authorities in FBI HQ refused to allow Rowley and company in Minnesota to go into Mousaoui’s laptop computer or how higher ups prevented Robert Wright in Chicago from going after the money trail of Yassin Al-Kadi (Qadi) who financed the software company Ptech and the terrorist group Hamas and who was later named a /Specially Designated Global Terrorist/ by President Bush in October of 2001.

An Open Letter From 9/11 Family Member Donna Marsh O’Connor

Source: 911truth.org

This September 11 will be the sixth anniversary of the day I had my last chance to talk to my daughter, Vanessa Lang Langer. I was barely out of bed and conscious during the dwindling moments that would come to be the remaining time her blood coursed through her veins, her heart beat, she had her hands on her steering wheel as she parked her car in the garage on Washington Street, sat at her desk, thought about her brothers, her husband, her coming child. I did not know it would be the last opportunity, and in this post-traumatic world that I now occupy I know there are millions of people out there who know how intensified my grief gets with each passing year and with each new crime perpetrated by the Bush administration and the many in our government who enable them. I know, and there is some comfort in knowing, that many of you are just as outraged, just as traumatized by the failure to bring to light that what was done to my daughter in body, and to our country and, indeed, the world, in spirit and action was (in whole or in part) facilitated by factions in our own government. The most important thing then is be certain that as we ask for an investigation or for impeachment we are conscious that we are asking for what may constitute our only hope to get out of this alive.

We must be strategic. Not sentimental. Not stupid. Not so angry that we lose sight of this first truth–even 9/11 occurred in the “post 9/11 world”. On that day when so many are thinking about their last opportune moments to connect to those they love, we need to give them the space (intellectual and emotional) to see with their own eyes how this land has fared, how our government has failed us as it grew its own power. Because the most important thing is not respect for the dead and for the grieving who on this day will have those events unfold for them moment by moment–the most important thing is to stop it from happening again. And continuing. So on that day and only on that day in the places where the mourners gather, I am asking all of you to pause.

Former Secretary Of Treasury Paul O’Neill

This is a clip about Secretary Paul O’Neill who said that 10 days after the inauguration during the first National Security Council meeting, Bush asked his principals to “go find me a way” to invade Iraq.

Do you think they found that way? After all, that is what was used to sell the wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq. There was no legitimate reason to invade, and pre-emptively invading a country is no different than what the Nazis did. The other reasons for war? Weapons of Mass Destruction. False. Ties to Al-Qaeda. False. They NEEDED 9/11 as the basis from which to sell us so many lies.

A “Full And Complete Accounting” Of The 9/11 Attacks

Jon Gold
8/24/2007

The 9/11 Commission’s mandate is/was as follows:

The Commission’s mandate is to provide a “full and complete accounting” of the attacks of September 11, 2001 and recommendations as to how to prevent such attacks in the future.

Specifically, Section 604 of Public Law 107-306 requires the Commission to investigate “facts and circumstances relating to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001,” including those relating to intelligence agencies; law enforcement agencies; diplomacy; immigration, nonimmigrant visas, and border control; the flow of assets to terrorist organizations; commercial aviation; the role of congressional oversight and resource allocation; and other areas determined relevant by the Commission for its inquiry.

Here is a partial list of things omitted from the 9/11 Report:

  • Sibel Edmonds’ testimony
  • John M. Cole’s testimony
  • Bogdan Dzakovic’s testimony
  • Behrooz Sarshar’s testimony
  • Melvin A. Goodman’s testimony
  • Gilbert Graham’s testimony
  • Coleen Rawley’s testimony
  • Robert Wright’s testimony

As I said, that’s just a “partial list” of things omitted from the 9/11 Report. There is A LOT This proves beyond a shadow of doubt that the 9/11 Commission failed its’ mandate to provide a “full and complete accounting” of the 9/11 attacks. This is reason enough alone to reopen the investigation.
