Nick Juliano
Raw Story
Thursday July 24, 2008
Kucinich, Barr, Bugliosi among those testifying
The House Judiciary Committee has released a witness list for its hearing to examine "the imperial presidency" of George W. Bush.
Testifying Friday morning will be Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who has introduced several resolutions calling for President Bush's and Vice President Dick Cheney's impeachment; former Rep. Bob Barr, the Libertarian presidential candidate who led the charge to impeach Bill Clinton in 1998; Vincent Bugliosi, author of the just-released book The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder; and 10 other current and former members of Congress, constitutional experts and human rights activists.

Fearmongering As a Form of Warfare
http://georgewashington2.blogspot.com/2008/07/fearmongering-as-form-of-w...
We often think of psychological warfare as meaning disinformation.
But psyops also includes inducing and spreading fear, because fear immobilizes people more than any other emotion. We all know about false flag terror. And many people argue that the government's real reason for torturing innocent people is to spread fear and intimidation.
And we already know that the Pentagon employs bloggers to spread its propaganda (indeed, even private companies appear to do it).
I've increasingly recently run across a form of fearmongering psyops on the web. Specifically, whenever anyone posts a hopeful idea or a promising strategy for fighting tyranny, someone will post a fear-inducing comment like:

U.S. to Grant $30 Million for Civilians’ 9/11 Ailments
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/24/nyregion/24x-health.html?ref=nyregion&...
By JAMES BARRON
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expected to announce on Thursday that it plans to award $30 million to hospitals and clinics that monitor and treat residents, students and other so-called nonresponders who were exposed to dust and smoke at ground zero.
These nonresponders were not among the rescue and recovery workers sent to the World Trade Center site after the twin towers were destroyed on 9/11. Some of those workers have complained of respiratory and gastrointestinal ailments. Thousands of firefighters, for example, developed what has become known as the World Trade Center cough.
Christine Branche, the acting director of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, said in an interview on Wednesday that the money was set aside in an appropriations bill that Congress passed and President Bush signed in December. She said it would be given as grants in three installments of $10 million, and would go to as many as three hospitals or clinics.

Reward offered for citizen's arrest of Rice [Australia]

Reward offered for citizen's arrest of Rice
8:25PM Thursday July 24, 2008
A $5000 reward is being offered to any Auckland University student who can make a successful citizen's arrest of United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during her visit to the country this weekend.
Auckland University Student Association (AUSA) president David Do said the arrest would be for her role in "overseeing the illegal invasion and continued occupation" of Iraq.
"It is hard enough living as a student in Auckland these days without having a war criminal coming to town, so we thought we'd give our students a chance to make a dent in their student loans and work for global justice at the same time."
Dr Rice will be in Auckland on July 26, where she will meet with Prime Minister Helen Clark, Foreign Minister Winston Peters and Opposition leader John Key.
She will make her first trip to New Zealand after attending a meeting of the Asean Regional Forum this week in Singapore.

Leaking Crimes Of State: Daniel Ellsburg's Lessons For Our Time
Source: counterpunch.org
By JAMES BOVARD
7/24/2008
Daniel Ellsberg is the kind of American who should receive a Medal of Freedom. Except that the Medals of Freedom are distributed by presidents who routinely give them to “useful idiots” and apologists for their wars and power grabs. It should be renamed the Medal for Enabling or Applauding Official Crimes in the Name of Freedom.
Ellsberg knowingly risked spending a life in prison to bring the truth about the Vietnam War to Americans. He had hoped truth would set Americans free from the spell of official lies. But the experience in Iraq indicates that Americans have learned little if anything from the Vietnam-era deceits.
Flora Lewis, a New York Times columnist, writing three weeks before 9/11, commented in a review of a book on U.S. government lies on the Vietnam War, “There will probably never be a return to the discretion, really collusion, with which the media used to treat presidents, and it is just as well.” But within months of her comment, the media had proven itself as craven as ever.

Exposing Bush's historic abuse of power - salon.com
Exposing Bush's historic abuse of power
salon.com - By Tim Shorrock
July 23, 2008 | WASHINGTON -- The last several years have brought a parade of dark revelations about the George W. Bush administration, from the manipulation of intelligence to torture to extrajudicial spying inside the United States. But there are growing indications that these known abuses of power may only be the tip of the iceberg. Now, in the twilight of the Bush presidency, a movement is stirring in Washington for a sweeping new inquiry into White House malfeasance that would be modeled after the famous Church Committee congressional investigation of the 1970s.
While reporting on domestic surveillance under Bush, Salon obtained a detailed memo proposing such an inquiry, and spoke with several sources involved in recent discussions around it on Capitol Hill. The memo was written by a former senior member of the original Church Committee; the discussions have included aides to top House Democrats, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Judiciary Committee chairman John Conyers, and until now have not been disclosed publicly.
Salon has also uncovered further indications of far-reaching and possibly illegal surveillance conducted by the National Security Agency inside the United States under President Bush. That includes the alleged use of a top-secret, sophisticated database system for monitoring people considered to be a threat to national security. It also includes signs of the NSA's working closely with other U.S. government agencies to track financial transactions domestically as well as globally.
The proposal for a Church Committee-style investigation emerged from talks between civil liberties advocates and aides to Democratic leaders in Congress, according to sources involved. (Pelosi's and Conyers' offices both declined to comment.) Looking forward to 2009, when both Congress and the White House may well be controlled by Democrats, the idea is to have Congress appoint an investigative body to discover the full extent of what the Bush White House did in the war on terror to undermine the Constitution and U.S. and international laws. The goal would be to implement government reforms aimed at preventing future abuses -- and perhaps to bring accountability for wrongdoing by Bush officials...

Willie Nelson In Talks To Hold Concert For 9/11 Truth
Willie Nelson In Talks To Hold Concert For 9/11 Truth

Plans being drawn up to emulate Woodstock for a new generation
Steve Watson
Prison Planet
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
In an exclusive interview today on the nationally syndicated Alex Jones show, iconic musician Willie Nelson volunteered to take part in a concert for 9/11 truth and as part of a campaign to stave off an attack on Iran.
The country music superstar told listeners that some form of musical event to help generate media attention would be a great idea if it could be organized successfully.
In response to a caller’s suggestion to perform at a concert in aid of 9/11 first responders and their families, as well as to raise the profile of the 9/11 truth movement, Nelson responded:
“I would agree to both of those things in a minute.”

Senator Mike Gravel Calls for New Investigation of 9/11, Supports NYC 9/11 Ballot Initiative
http://nyc911initiative.org/index.html
Press Conference with Sen. Mike Gravel and reception to follow (see below)
St. Marks Church, 2nd Ave. & 10th Street, New York City
Tues. June 17th, 5pm
(New York, NY, June 13, 2009) --- On Tuesday, June 17th at 5pm, at Union Square
in New York City, former Senator Mike Gravel, speaking in behalf of the NYC
9/11 Ballot Initiative Campaign, will call for a new and far reaching investigation
of the crimes of 9/11. This comes in the wake of several developments which
underscore the need for a truly independent, thorough, fact-driven investigation
into the events of 9/11. Consider the recent book by NY Times veteran reporter
Philip Shenon titled The Commission: The Uncensored History of the 9/11
Investigation which highlighted the conflicts of interest of Executive
Director Philip Zelikow. Consider the book by Tom Kean and Lee Hamilton titled
Unprecedented in which they stated they were "doomed to fail
from the start" and they were lied to by NORAD regarding our absence of
air defense. Consider the Articles of Impeachment nos. 33-35 by Dennis Kucinich
which list hard evidence showing dereliction of duty, obstruction of justice,
and malfeasance by the Bush administration. Consider the revelation of the destruction
in 2004 of CIA tape recordings of suspects in Guantanamo Bay which were requested
by the 9/11 Commission. Consider that Arizona Congresswoman Karen Johnson, who
has called attention to the research of physics professor Steven Jones and architect
Richard Gage, has called for a new 9/11 investigation. The list goes on and

Petition to Investigate 9/11 Read in Canadian Parliament
We, the undersigned citizens of Canada draw the attention of the House to the following:
THAT, scientific and eyewitness evidence shows that the 9/11 Commission Report is a fraudulent document and that those behind the report are consciously or unconsciously guilty of covering up what happened on 9/11/2001. This evidence overwhelmingly supports the conclusion that World Trade Center Towers 1, 2 and 7 were brought down by demolition explosives and that the official theory of the towers collapsing from the airplanes and the ensuing fires is irrefutably false.
We further believe that elements within the US government were complicit in the murder of thousands of people on 9/11/2001. This event brought Canada into the so-called "War on Terror," it changed our domestic and foreign policies for the worse, and it will continue to have negative consequences for us all if we refuse to look at the facts.
THEREFORE, your petitioners call upon Parliament to:
(1) Immediately launch its own investigation into the events of 9/11/2001 on behalf of the 24 Canadian citizens murdered in New York City.
(2) Act lawfully on the findings of its own investigation by helping to pursue the guilty parties in the international courts.

9/11, Deep State Violence, and the Hope of Internet Politics
Peter Dale Scott
June 11, 2008
The Deep State and 9/11
The unthinkable that elements inside the state would conspire with
criminals to kill innocent civilians has become not only thinkable but
commonplace in the last century. A seminal example was in French Algeria, where
dissident elements of the French armed forces, resisting General de Gaulles
plans for Algerian independence, organized as the Secret Army Organization and
bombed civilians indiscriminately, with targets including hospitals and schools.1
Critics like Alexander Litvinenko, who was subsequently murdered in London in
November 2006, have charged that the 1999 bombings of apartment buildings around
Moscow, attributed to Chechen separatists, were in fact the work of the Russian
secret service (FSB).2
Similar attacks in Turkey have given rise to the notion there of an extra-legal
deep state a combination of forces, ranging from former
members of the CIA-organized Gladio organization, to a vast matrix of
security and intelligence officials, ultranationalist members of the Turkish
underworld and renegade former members of the [Kurdish separatist] PKK.3
The deep state, financed in part by Turkeys substantial heroin traffic,
has been accused of killing thousands of civilians, in incidents such as the
lethal bomb attack in November 2005 on a bookshop in Semdinli. This attack,
initially attributed to the Kurdish separatist PKK, turned out to have been
committed by members of Turkey's paramilitary police intelligence service, together
with a former PKK member turned informer.4 On April 23, 2008,
the former Interior Minister Mehmet Agar was ordered to stand trial for his
role in this dirty war during the 1990s.5
In my book The Road to 9/11, I have argued that there has existed,
at least since World War Two if not earlier, an analogous American deep state,
also combining intelligence officials with elements from the drug-trafficking
underworld.6 I also pointed to recent decades of
collaboration between the U.S. deep state and al-Qaeda, a terrorist underworld
whose drug-trafficking activities have been played down in the 9/11 Commission
Report and the mainstream U.S. media.7

Huge Victory in Supreme Court
Center for Constitutional Research
June 12, 2008
Today is a historic victory for the rule of law. We won! For the third time,
the Supreme Court has upheld the fundamental rights of Guantanamo detainees.
In its historic decision in CCR's case, Boumediene v. Bush, the Court affirmed
detainees' right to habeas corpus. One of the oldest and most basic legal protections,
habeas corpus affords the incarcerated the right to challenge the legality of
their detention before a judge and keeps the king and president from arbitrarily
locking people up and throwing away the key.
We're asking you to take action in two important ways: please make a contribution
to CCR today so we can continue this important work, and please write to the
presidential candidates to demand that they uphold the Supreme Court's decision.
The Administration has delayed, ignored and sought to evade two prior Supreme
Court decisions, Rasul v. Bush in 2004 and Hamdan v. Rumsfeld in 2006, both
of which upheld the rights of Guantanamo detainees.

The Spy Who Loves Us
The Spy Who Loves Us
Pay no mind to the Mossad agent on the line.
by Philip Giraldi
June 2, 2008 Issue, The American Conservative
After Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard was sentenced to life in prison in 1986,
the U.S. negotiated an understanding with Israel—a “gentlemen’s
agreement” —stipulating that neither nation would thenceforth conduct
espionage operations in the other’s territory without consent. But the
agreement was a sham from the beginning. The Israeli government didn’t
even honor its commitments in the aftermath of the Pollard case, failing to
return the estimated 360 cubic feet of stolen information to enable the U.S.
to conduct a damage assessment. The United States, for its part, continued to
recruit and run agents inside Israel throughout the 1980s and 1990s. And it
was known within the intelligence and counterintelligence communities that Israel
did the same in the United States. David Szady, the FBI’s assistant director
for counterintelligence, was so dismayed by the level of Israeli spying in the
late ’90s that he called in the head of the Israeli Embassy’s Central
Institute for Intelligence and Special Activities (Mossad) office and told him,
“Knock it off.” ...
Virtually every U.S. government body concerned with security has confirmed
that Israeli espionage takes place, though it is frequently not exposed because
FBI officers know that investigating these crimes is frustrating and does no
favors for their careers. But Israel always features prominently in the annual
FBI report called “Foreign Economic Collection and Industrial Espionage.”
The 2005 report states, “Israel has an active program to gather proprietary
information within the United States. These collection activities are primarily
directed at obtaining information on military systems and advanced computing
applications that can be used in Israel’s sizable armaments industry.”
It adds that Israel recruits spies, uses electronic methods, and carries out
computer intrusion to gain the information.

Legislating Tyranny
by Paul Craig Roberts and Lawrence M. Stratton
Posted at Lewrockwell.com
June 7, 2008
... Polls show that 36 percent of the American public and more than half of New
Yorkers lack confidence in the 9/11 Commission Report. Despite a significant
percentage of the public’s disbelief in the explanation of the event that
took America to war in the Middle East, Congress and the media continue to tolerate
the Bush administration’s aggressive rhetoric, which seeks to widen the
“war on terror” from Afghanistan and Iraq to Iran, Syria, and Lebanon.
The diligence with which Vice President Cheney and the neoconservatives press
for an attack on Iran, and the extreme position that the Bush administration
has taken on executive power, raise the question whether the Bush administration
has an agenda that takes precedence over America’s constitutional democracy.
Never in its history have the American people faced such danger to their constitutional
protections as they face today from those in the government who hold the reins
of power and from elements of the legal profession and the federal judiciary
that support “energy in the executive.” An assertive executive backed
by an aggressive U.S. Department of Justice and unobstructed by a supine Congress
and an intimidated corporate media has demonstrated an ability to ignore statutory
law and public opinion. The precedents that have been set during the opening
years of the twenty-first century bode ill for the future of American liberty.

man named Blair Gadsby. I'm going to ask the folks with Blair to help him stand,

his day outside the office of U.S. Senator John McCain, pleading with the Senator
to take a look at new evidence of the 9/11 crimes.

We cannot allow this to happen...
... The founders of our country feared more than anything else the prospect of
an executive who put his own power and desires above the Constitution. Congress
was given the power of impeachment so that it could remove any president who
committed the high crime of violating the Constitution during his (or her) term
in office.
A strong case can be made that no president in the history of this country
is more deserving of impeachment than George W. Bush. If he is not impeached,
the bar for impeachment will have been raised so high that it might as well
no longer exist. Future presidents will know that they can violate the Constitution
at will, confident in the fact that Congress does not have the courage as an
institution to do anything about it.
We cannot allow this to happen.

Dr. William Pepper on James Earl Ray's Innocence, Sirhan Sirhan's Innocence, 9/11 Truth and Prosecuting War Crimes
Another excellent VIDEO EXCLUSIVE from Hot Potato Mash:
Dr. William Pepper on James Earl Ray's Innocence, Sirhan Sirhan's Innocence,
9/11 Truth and Prosecuting War Crimes
Dr. William F. Pepper is an internationally acclaimed lawyer who defended James
Earl Ray in a 1999 civil trial (supported by Martin Luther King's family) where
the jury found Ray not responsible for the MLK assassination. Now Pepper is
defending Sirhan Sirhan for the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, a case he
says is an easier one than the assassination of Martin King and the innocence
of James Earl Ray.
Last Wednesday Pepper spoke about all of his projects, including 9/11 truth
and prosecuting the Bush administration for war crimes, to a packed celebrity
filled house in Los Angeles. Among those in attendance were Ed Asner, Gina Belafonte,
Judd Nelson and 9/11 author Professor David Ray Griffin. Videos of his talk
follow ...
Part 1 (6:21) - Introduction
In Part 1 Pepper talks about his background, childhood and motivation. He also
speaks about the time he spent in Cuba playing baseball where he got to know
Fidel Castro. According to Pepper, Castro foresaw much of what is happening
in the United States today:
...
Part 5 (8:36) - 9/11
The 9/11 matter is, in my lifetime, the most traumatic assault on democracy
and the safety of this Republic. - Dr. William Pepper
Part 5 is dedicated to finding out the truth about 9/11. Pepper supports two
different ways for accomplishing this goal. First, he backs an effort to create
a new commission to investigate 9/11 by New York state referendum. Volunteers
are currently trying to get the necessary 30,000 signatures from registered
New York voters to get the measure on the ballot.
The second approach is to once again file a lawsuit in the courts. Pepper is
leading this effort on behalf of the Jersey Girls and plans to sue, among others,
Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who is widely believed to have sent $100,000 to lead
9/11 hijacker, Mohammed Atta.
